Marc Chagall occupies a singular place in modern art. His paintings are built from memory rather than observation, from feeling rather than narrative, and from a visual language that remained unmistakably his own across countries, decades, and movements. Marc Chagall: 200 Curated Paintings brings together a carefully edited body of work that foregrounds his lyrical village scenes, lovers, musicians, animals, and dreamlike imagery. About the Collection• 200 carefully curated paintings spanning Chagall’s full artistic life• Emphasis on non-biblical works to allow the breadth of his visual imagination to shine• Village life, love, music, folklore, memory, and emotional symbolism form the core themes• Sequenced for visual and emotional flow rather than strict chronology• Designed to function as a private art gallery in book formPrint Quality and Image Treatment• All paintings have been professionally retouched for clarity, sharpness, and depth• No alteration of original details, textures, or compositional intent• Colours restored to full strength without artificial enhancement• Each artwork mounted against black to maximise contrast and luminosity• Gallery-style presentation throughout, suitable for extended viewingHardcover• Size: 8.25 × 11 inches (regular A4)• Premium archival paper• Premium inks for long-term colour stabilityPaperback• Size: 8.5 × 11.69 inches (large A4)• Premium archival paper• Premium inks matching the hardcover editionE-book• Optimised for high-resolution viewing• Maintains the original layout and visual sequencing; Print Replica formatDisplay and Use• Individual pages are suitable for careful detachment and framing• Ideal for feature walls, studios, reading rooms, and quiet living spaces• Functions equally well as a reference volume or a contemplative art objectFrom the Curator TeamWe expected imperfections. That much was obvious from the beginning.Eyes, for instance, are notoriously difficult to preserve. Spots of vandalism often appear there, almost as if thrown down as a quiet challenge. If you are serious about restoration, fix this. We accept that. It comes with the territory. What we did not expect was the second layer. As we worked through these images, carefully removing scratches, stains, and distortions, we repeatedly encountered something else altogether. Not damage from time, but additions. Deliberate ones. Penises drawn where no penises belong. Sometimes obvious, sometimes cleverly concealed. More than once, after believing a painting was fully restored, we lifted another layer and found several waiting patiently underneath. This kind of alteration is not the result of age, nor of careless handling. It is the by-product of free image repositories outsourcing deliberate downgrading of the piece to the cheapest possible hands, with no accountability and no regard for the work itself. It takes time, patience, and no small amount of composure to discover such things mid-process.We mention this not to scandalise, but to explain the labour behind these pages. Many of the artists represented here took immense risks in depicting the human form honestly and without hierarchy. Their work deserves to be seen without jokes scribbled into it centuries later. Our role, as curators and publishers, is simply to return the paintings to a state where the artist, not an anonymous interloper, has the final word. Read more
