Hello to everyone who has an interest in birds for whatever reason. In this book you will find a very comprehensive list of birds found in New York state. The first group is the primary group and includes what many people would call backyard birds. These birds will be seen in your trees, at your bird feeders, along the roadside, in parks, and much more. Because there is so much water in and around New York, I have included many other common birds that don’t share the backyard habitat. These include waterbirds and shorebirds. This is a breakdown of these birds and how I have grouped them. Group 1 (page 40). These are what many people would call backyard birds. This is our largest group and includes many species. For these birds, you will find amazing color pictures, a detailed description, what they sound like, what they eat, and the season you will see them. The groups listed below are provided so that you can identify many other birds found in New York state. There is a lot of water in and around New York, so I wanted you to be able to identify them all. I don’t give details about the last three groups, but there are color pictures of each. With these pictures you can still identify them easily. Ducks (Group 2, page 230) have their own section, and so do geese (Group 3, page 242). All of the ducks covered are wild ducks. Introduced farm species, pet species, etc., are not covered. Our fourth group (Group 4, page 243) of birds are the shorebirds and seabirds. These birds are much more associated with salt water, so they are separated into their own group. In the shorebird and seabird section, I have included: sandpipers, plovers, stilts, avocets, oystercatchers, gulls, terns, skimmers, pelicans, cormorants, puffins, gannets, boobies, albatrosses, and tubenoses. Most of these groups are found in this book. Read more
